Paws & Plumage: Sunset

Sunset is inspired by those glorious golden hour walks that we hound owner’s often find ourselves on. With two reactive greyhounds, I find that the majority of walkers have actually gone home for dinner by this time, leaving me and my houndlings to stroll in relative peace whilst watching the sun set behind the Cornish tin mines.It is especially beautiful during these summer months as the sun sets so late, allowing us to go that little but farther into the landscape.

This linocut depicts a curious hound greeting a starling. Starlings are my favourite bird and one I remember fondly from childhood. I used to spend hours watching them wash themselves in the garden bird baths in little feathery groups of 5 or 6. It was always fascinating for me to see how their feathers shone in the sun like oil, with that purple and green sheen.
